Like all hospices, the Shuswap Hospice Society could not exist without dedicated volunteers. Hospice volunteers are supportive friends from the community who are involved because they care. They are carefully selected and trained and receive ongoing support, supervision and education.
Hospice volunteers:
- give support to the dying and their families
- provide
companionship and support to the bereaved
- relieve care givers
for short periods of time
- help patients and
families develop support systems
- respect religious
beliefs without imposing their own values
- visit homes, hospitals
and nursing homes
- offer “time-out” for family members
Hospice volunteers
will:
- help you plan options of care
- help you to address
family issues
- help you deal
with the challenges of care
- help you with
resolving unfinished business
- help you with
explore community resources
Volunteer meetings are held every 3rd Thursday at 1:30 PM.

Hospice
Volunteers
To
provide the compassion and understanding greatly needed by people living
with a terminal illness is a gift - given freely by gifted people.
Some of our volunteers
who make decisions regarding the direction and vision of Shuswap
Hospice Society; these are our Board of Directors. Some work extremely
hard organizing events to raise funds required for us to continue providing
care, and sit on various committees. Others provide care to people
who are vulnerable and need our compassionate caring. And we have many
volunteers who use their own talents to help in many different ways. All
of these dedicated volunteers are the heart and soul of Shuswap
Hospice Society. |
